Fed Double Speak As expected, the Federal Reserve slowed its pace of key rate hikes yesterday, raising key interest rates by 25 basis points. This is down from the 50-basis-point increase in December, and the four back-to-back 75-basis-point hikes prior. The latest increases bring the Fed’s benchmark rate to 4.50% – 4.75% – the highest level since October of 2007. Now, what’s important to note is the Fed voted unanimously to raise rates by 25 points and acknowledged that inflation was slowing down.
