Oil Rallies as Texas’ Wintry Weather Seen Curbing Shale Supplies 2021/02/15 01:17:14 Yahoo Finance
(Bloomberg) -- Oil hit a fresh 13-month high as cold weather in Texas may see supply curbed from America’s largest shale patch.U.S. West Texas Intermediate futures surged as much as 2.2% in early Asian trade, rising above $60 a barrel for the first time in more than a year. Brent crude in London rallied past $63. Traders estimate a few hundred thousand barrels a day of output in Texas may be impacted by well shutdowns, disrupted road transport and power outages, crimping American supplies just as global markets are seen to have rebalanced. The Arctic blast gripping the central U.S. may threaten exports from one of the world’s top producers amid rapidly-normalizing global stockpiles that point to the success OPEC+ has had in draining a surplus left in the wake of the pandemic. American oil demand may also be finally catching up with Asia, where fuel consumption was the first to rebound, with refiners processing the most crude since March in anticipation of a vaccine-driven boost in gasoline use this summer.WTI has surged about 16% since the beginning of this month and Brent posted four straight weeks of gains as more Covid-19 vaccines were approved and rolled out worldwide.

Electrification of harbour crane moves Port of Tyne closer to carbon neutral goal 2021/01/06 00:01:37 BusinessGreen
Port selected to be maintenance base for massive Dogger Bank offshore wind farm cut 700 tonnes of carbon emissions in 2020 after electrifying its harbour crane and other key assets The Port of Tyne has made major strides towards its aim of becoming a fully electric port, after slashing 700 tonnes of carbon emissions last year following the electrification of several key pieces of heavy-duty diesel-powered harbour machinery, it revealed yesterday. Among the equipment being targeted in the ongoing electrification push is a Liebherr mobile harbour crane and Drax hoppers, the wagons used for transporting bulk materials, Port of Tyne said. These two conversions alone have reduced the port's diesel consumption by 260,000 litres and eliminated 700 tonnes of carbon emissions over the last 12 months, according to the Port's analysis, moving the facility closer to achieving its goals of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 and becoming an all-electric site 10 years later. The port, which spans 17 miles of the River Tyne in England's North East, is aiming to establish itself as a clean tech leader following the inauguration last year of a dedicated green energy park for the North East's rapidly-growing offshore renewables sector.

Giant 14MW mega-turbines heading for the North Sea 2020/12/18 10:38:39 BusinessGreen
GE Renewable Energy confirms latest order from Dogger Bank wind farm will see upgraded 14MW Haliade-X turbines deployed for the first time Another wave of world record-breaking wind turbines are on track to be deployed in the North Sea, after GE Renewable Energy today announced it has been confirmed as the preferred turbine supplier for Dogger Bank C, the third phase of the giant offshore wind project. The deal would see GE provide an upgraded version of its Haliade-X turbine, which is already the world's largest turbine in operation, that would take its capacity up from 13MW to 14MW. A turbine supply agreement and accompanying service and warranty agreements between GE and Dogger Bank C - a 50:50 joint venture between SSE Renewables and Equinor - is now expected to finalised in the first quarter of 2021. Installation of the turbines for Dogger Bank C is set to begin in 2025 ahead of completion of the overall project in 2026. The third phase of the project should deliver 1.2GW of capacity, taking the total capacity from the three phases to 3.6GW, making it the world's largest offshore wind farm.

Brazil Provides Seismic Bounty 2020/12/14 12:24:48 IHS Markit
In the first half of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic put the brakes on several seismic projects in Brazil. Now, as we look toward 2021, the country will shortly occupy a sizable portion of the active global fleet. TGS has announced it will utilise COSL vessel Hai Yang Shi You 720 on a dual-azimuth survey in the Espirito Santo Basin, which is likely to lead into other such projects, given the journey from China. Likewise, BGP Pioneer will acquire 7,000 km of 2D data for TGS in the Pelotas Basin from the first quarter of next year, with several other potential surveys to follow. The Norwegian multi-client specialist is also using BGP Prospector in Argentina's Malvinas Basin for the next three months, at which point it may also head to Brazil. The vessel is earmarked for ION Geophysical's proposed 17,200 sq. km shoot in the Campos Basin, pencilled in for next year. Further surveys in Argentina may also emerge, with Shearwater GeoServices a decent bet to pick up this work. CGG is continuing its Nebula 3D multi-client programme in Brazil's Santos and Campos Basins, using Oceanic Sirius, part of the fleet sold by the firm to Shearwater in 2019.
