IPO listing gains drying up: Days of making easy money got over?  2021/03/26 07:52:32 Economic Times India
NEW DELHI: Two stocks – Kalyan Jewellers and Suryoday SFB – made weak market debuts on Friday, listing at up to 15 per cent discount to their issue prices. On Thursday, debutant Craftsman Automation got listed at a 9 per cent discount. The day before, it was Anupam Rasayan, which too made a poor debut on Dalal Street. This, when some of these IPOs received 'subscribe' ratings for listing gains from top brokerages despite aggressive valuations. And they did see decent subscriptions, too, in the past couple of weeksIt seems the days of money easy making on IPOs are getting over on Dalal Street.Kalyan Jewellers got listed at Rs 73.90 on BSE, a 15.06 per cent discount to its issue price of Rs 87. The company had been hit by Covid disruptions. In FY19 as well, its revenues were hit by severe floods in South India, which brings in 60 per cent of Kalyan’s revenues.Analysts were not happy with the poor capital allocation and the company’s balance sheet. Besides, jewellery stocks have had a tepid listing history in the past.Despite all this, retail investors were most bullish on the issue, bidding for 2.82 times the quota size.
Outward remittances pick up pace  2021/03/25 17:00:57 Economic Times India
Indians are remitting more money abroad for both personal expenses as well as investments. Outward remittances by resident Indians under the liberalised remittance scheme (LRS) have risen 34 per cent sequentially since October with outflows for family maintenance and education as well investments in equities and deposits picking up.“In the lockdown-induced slowdown phase, while the overall economy was blunted, the HNI segment wealth was relatively less impacted,” said Joydeep Sen, a consultant at Phillip Capital. “The stock market volatility was over by 23 March 2020. Now that the economy is looking upward and the stock market is near all-time high, people are stepping up discretionary (lifestyle) expenses and capital remittances for diversification of portfolio.”Indians sent abroad $1.2 billion in January under LRS, up 34per cent sequentially since October during which they remitted abroad only $938 millionUnder the LRS all resident individuals, including minors, are allowed to freely remit up to $ 2,50,000 per financial year (April – March) for any permissible current or capital account transaction or a combination of both.

Hindalco among metals stocks and IT companies like Infosys, HCL Tech and even midcaps like MindTree or Persistent Systems are the ones where the strategist would like to participate ahead of the earnings season. Hemang Jani, Equity Strategist & Senior Group VP, MOFSL, in conversation with ET NOW.In yesterday’s market, a lot of midcap and smallcap stocks got completely chopped. It is always a concern when stocks which are patronised by retail or HNI investors start falling so hard.We have seen such a big rally in the market and we have to reckon that there have not been any meaningful corrections on the way. Typically in a bull market backed by such a strong global liquidity and the earnings upgrade cycle, one may have to go through a corrective phase and it may be for multiple reasons. The retail participation is very strong in the midcap and small cap sectors. Sometimes because of the high beta nature and the kind of liquidity or depth or the lack of it, there might be some degree of surprise in the midcap and smallcap stocks.
