NLRB official says Amazon violated labor law in union vote, recommends new election, according to union (AMZN) 2021/08/03 00:21:55 Business Insider
Summary List Placement The National Labor Relations Board official overseeing the union election at Amazon''s warehouse in Bessemer, Alabama, recommended on Monday that a new election be held, according to the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union. "In a final step towards a formal decision, the Hearing Officer who presided over the case has determined that Amazon violated labor law; and is recommending that the Regional Director set aside the results of the election and direct a second election," the RWDSU, under which Amazon''s workers would unionize, said in a statement. The decision is not final, however. It now heads to the NLRB''s regional director for Region 10, which includes Alabama, who will make a formal decision about whether to adopt the hearing officer''s recommendations. If the regional director agrees, the NLRB will issue an order tossing out the results of the original election, in which Amazon employees voted 1,798 to 738 against unionizing , with 505 ballots challenged and 76 voided, and will conduct a new election. "Throughout the NLRB hearing, we heard compelling evidence how Amazon tried to illegally interfere with and intimidate workers as they sought to exercise their right to form a union.
NBA Player is JUST Eggs Newest Ambassador as Athletes Continue to Ditch Junk Food Brands 2021/08/02 23:08:01 Vegconomist
Previously, many athletes were known as ambassadors for fast food chains and soda brands. In the wake of Ronaldos famous Coca-Cola shunning stunt which recently caused a stir around the world, NBA player Cade Cunningham has become the latest athlete to promote healthy foods through a partnership with plant-based heavyweight JUST Egg. Cunningham is an up-and-coming player who was recently drafted for the Detroit Pistons. He joins a growing number of athletes who are choosing healthier brands that align with their lifestyles rather than more conventional partners. This July, vegan cheese company Miyokos Creamery partnered with not one, but five plant-based Olympic athletes David Verburg, Rachael Adams, Heather Mitts, Dustin Watten, and Dotsie Bausch. The partnership is part of a program called Cheese of Champs, which has the aim of promoting a healthy, plant-based lifestyle. Last year, two more Olympic athletes Michael Phelps and Aly Raisman became the faces of Silk soymilk. And in 2019, a team of NBA and NFL players became brand ambassadors for Beyond Meat.

Summary List Placement Bill Gates warned a pandemic could upend one of the US'' most popular music festivals year before COVID-19 took over. Paul Tollett, the founder of concert promotion firm Goldenvoice and co-founder of Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, told The Los Angeles Times about a meeting "about five years ago" when he gave Gates a tour of the music festival. Gates shared his interest in the company, but he felt the need to give some advice. "He goes, ''I''ve been following the show for a while. I think it can last forever.'' I think, ''Oh, that''s so great. I''m so happy,''" Tollett told the LA Times. "And he says, ''Except for'' and he names a whole bunch of things, and ''pandemic'' was one of them. And I''m like, ''Wow, you''re a buzzkill.'' But he was right." Tollet hadn''t considered the possibilities of such a catastrophic event, saying to the LA Times "we didn''t have insurance. So what we lost, we lost." That loss, of course, is the cancellation of the Coachella music fest in 2020.

The founder of Uncle Matt's Organic bought back his beverage brand after the company that acquired it in 2017 went bankrupt. Here's how he's rebuilding trust and sales. 2021/03/20 12:00:00 Business Insider
Summary List Placement Matt McLean was living a food brand founder's dream in 2019. Two years earlier, he had sold his Florida-based fruit juice company, Uncle Matt's Organic, to milk producer Dean Foods. For Dean, Uncle Matt's diversified its portfolio beyond the troubled milk industry, and McLean agreed to stay on until mid-2020 to help run the company. Then, Dean's CEO asked McLean a question he never expected: Would consider taking Uncle Matt's independent again as Dean changed strategy? "Up until that point, I had not ever thought about buying the company back," he said. "You sell to an $8 billion publicly-traded company, you think 'It's done, we've moved on.'" Over the last year, though, McLean has reprised many of his pre-acquisition duties at Uncle Matt's. While few founders plan to buy the companies they found back from buyers, McLean isn't alone, even in the beverage industry: Mark Rampolla, the founder of Zico, agreed to buy the coconut water brand back from Coca Cola in January, roughly seven years after selling it to the beverage giant.
