7 Stocks to Buy Ahead of the Next Big Rate Hikes 2022/09/03 13:12:48 InvestorPlace
Wall Street is searching for solid stocks to buy that could shield long-term portfolios from market volatility ahead of the anticipated interest rate hikes. While inflation may have peaked in July, it remains well above the Federal Reserve’s (Fed) 2% target. So far in 2022, the central bank has already raised its overnight lending rate by 2.25%. Investors will most likely see further interest rate hikes through the rest of the year in the Fed’s bid to bring down inflation. Chairman Jerome Powell recently remarked that the Fed aims to utilize its policymaking “tools forcefully to bring demand and supply into better balance.” Thus, the Fed is committed to a more contractionary monetary policy in the months ahead. Meanwhile, August ended on a down note, reversing some of the gains seen earlier in the summer. As a result, the benchmark S&P 500 index is currently down 17% year-to-date (YTD), compared with the nearly 25% decline in the Nasdaq 100 index. Against this backdrop, it’s no surprise that investors are increasingly focused on stable stocks to buy in sectors that may outperform the broader market.

Spacecraft engineering company SpaceX and T-Mobile recently announced a partnership that will enable smartphones to connect directly to satellites.According to GSM Arena, this will be supported by upcoming Starlink V2 satellites but will work with existing phones because it will use an existing band in the PCS spectrum.Google SVP of Platforms & Ecosystems Hiroshi Lockheimer announced on Twitter that the company is working on building satellite communication support into the next version of Android (v14).While the existing radio hardware in the current phone will do the job, it''s not yet clear what software updates will be required, as per GSM Arena.T-Mobile and SpaceX are expected to start beta testing the new satellite in late 2023 when Android 14 will arrive. Though early on it will give coverage for the US, the companies plan to expand the service to cover the entire world. It will be slow, around 2 to 4Mbps per cellular zone, but that is enough for hundreds of thousands of …

"A Slow Motion Disaster": Network Sunset Of 3G Will Wreak Havoc For Millions Of Vehicles On The Road 2022/02/26 01:00:00 Zero Hedge
"A Slow Motion Disaster": Network Sunset Of 3G Will Wreak Havoc For Millions Of Vehicles On The Road While the world is looking forward to the future of 5G - as soon as we can figure out how to implement it without screwing up our entire air travel infrastructure - the demise of 3G is quietly wreaking havoc with some automakers, according to a new report from CNBC . "Millions of car owners" are affected by 3G dropping off the map, the report notes. Many vehicles use 3G networks for updates and remote communication, including models manufactured by Tesla, Audi, Honda and Nissan. The affectionately titled "network sunset" of 3G renders some features on these models, and many other products including home security systems, obsolete. While some vehicles will still function normally, CNBC notes that "others could lose automatic emergency response services in the event of a crash and certain infotainment and convenience features such as real-time navigation and smartphone app features such as pre-cabin conditioning".
