ISMC to invest $3 billion in Karnataka to set up India’s first chip-making plant  2022/05/02 00:30:00 The Financial Express
International semiconductor consortium ISMC, a joint venture between Abu Dhabi-based Next Orbit Ventures and Israel’s Tower Semiconductor, will invest $3 billion in Karnataka to set up India’s first chip-making plant, the state government said on Sunday. The announcement indicates that the incentive structure being put in place by the government to make India a semiconductor hub is beginning to fructify. Intel had recently announced plans to acquire Tower Semiconductor. ISMC’s proposed 65-nanometer analog semiconductor fabrication unit is expected to employ 1,500 people directly over seven years, the state government said, adding that another 10,000 jobs will be created in the ancillary ecosystem. The chip makers’ consortium has requested for 150 acres of land in Mysuru’s Kochanahalli Industrial area for the unit. Additional chief secretary for IT and bio-technology EV Ramana Reddy and ISMC director Ajay Jalan signed a memorandum of understanding in the presence of chief minister Basavaraj Bommai.
Tatas plan to go atmanirbhar with chipmaking, EV battery plans  2022/04/30 05:30:37 Economic Times India
Semiconductors are next on the Tata Group''s list as the coffee-to-cars conglomerate seeks to trim the pain from the global chip crisis as well as reduce its dependence on imports.Apart from chips, the group plans to make batteries for electric vehicles too, N. Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons Pvt., told press at an event in Mumbai. Chandrasekaran spoke about evaluating partnerships for cell and battery manufacturing in India and Europe in Tata Motors Ltd.’s annual report in June. The initiatives by the $103 billion Tata Group are aligned to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attempts to make India a leader in semiconductor production and reduce its reliance on imports amid global chain disruptions. Several international chip giants including Intel Corp. and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. are exploring India as a potential manufacturing base, the nation’s Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Thursday. Automakers around the globe are grappling with a semiconductor shortage, exacerbated by pandemic lockdowns in China, which have hobbled the automobile and the electronics sector by raising input costs for makers.“Supply chain is getting very precarious and uncertain,” said Shailesh Chandra, managing director at Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles in an interview on Friday.

Asia: Taiwan chip maker TSMC remains a crypto skeptic  2022/04/15 01:34:17 Metro Times
A day after bitcoin and other major cryptos had their best day since the beginning of the month, they were back in the doldrums as Russia intensified its attacks on Ukraine’s southern and eastern regions, causing new investor anxiety about the global economy. During Thursday trading, the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization fell below $40,000, and it was recently down over 3% for the past 24 hours. Ether was trading at around $3,000, down by nearly the same amount over the same time period. Other major cryptos were in the red as well. Both SOL and ADA were lately down more than 4%. DOGE, which was up over 1.5 percent, was a rare bright light. Crypto prices fell in lockstep with equities markets, with the tech-heavy Nasdaq losing 2.1 percent and the S&P 500 losing a percentage point as investors remained wary of riskier assets. Meanwhile, the economic consequences of Russia’s unjustified invasion grew. Russian President Vladimir Putin acknowledged on Thursday that economic sanctions imposed by the US and other nations in response to Russia’s unjustified aggression were affecting his country’s oil and gas industry, a day after claiming that peace talks with Ukraine had reached a stalemate.

Chart Wars: Between Nvidia, Taiwan Semiconductor, Which Stock Looks Set To Fly Higher?  2022/02/07 19:17:30 Benzinga
NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ: NVDA ) and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, Ltd. (NYSE: TSM ) were each trading 1% higher on Monday despite the broad sector ETF SPDR S&P 500 consolidating with an inside bar pattern. Both stocks have reached new all-time highs recently with Nvidia soaring to the $346.47 mark on Nov. 22 and Taiwan Semiconductor hitting a Jan. 13 high of $145. Since reaching their all-time highs both stocks have sold off, with Nvidia dropping 38.35% to reach a Jan. 28 low of $212.96 and on that same date Taiwan Semiconductors bounced up from a bottom at the 114.19 level, which represented a 21.25% decline. While both semiconductor stocks have fallen lower, Nvidia and Taiwan Semiconductors have both printed reversal candles on their daily charts, which indicates higher prices may be on the horizon. Nvidia may have a potential political advantage, however, being a U.S. company because on Friday the U.S. House formally passed a China competition bill to increase chip production.
