The Rise Of The Corporate Censors: How America Is Drifting Toward The Chinese Model Of Media 2020/10/21 02:45:00 Zero Hedge
The Rise Of The Corporate Censors: How America Is Drifting Toward The Chinese Model Of Media Tyler Durden Tue, 10/20/2020 - 22:45 Authored by Jonathan Turley, Below is my column in The Hill newspaper on the censorship of the Hunter Biden controversy by Facebook and Twitter. The response of the Biden campaign and figures like Rep. Adam Schiff has been to dismiss the story as the likely product of Russian intelligence . Notably however they do not address the underlying emails. As many of us have written, there is ample reason to suspect foreign intelligence and the FBI is reportedly investigating that possibility. However, that does not mean that the emails are not authentic. Hillary Clinton was hacked by Russia but the emails were still real. It is possible to investigate both those responsible for the laptop’s disclosure and what has been disclosed on the laptop. The censorship by these companies however has magnified concerns in the controversy, particularly with the disclosure of close connections between some company officials and the Biden campaign .

San Francisco's Sea Cliff neighborhood, where Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey owns $30 million worth of homes, is a parade of oceanside mansions. Here's what it's like inside. 2020/09/05 20:42:00 Business Insider
Summary List Placement On the northwest corner of San Francisco lies the exclusive neighborhood of Sea Cliff. It was founded in 1913 as one of the city's residence parks, or makeshift suburbs. It's become one of San Francisco's most elite residential areas housing prominent figures, including Twitter and Square founder and billionaire Jack Dorsey. Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories . If you need a reminder of San Francisco's multifaceted landscape, go to Sea Cliff. As the name implies, it's a neighborhood built on, and in some parts into, a cliff overlooking the expansive Pacific Ocean. It's on the opposite side of the city center, away from the hustle and bustle — you'll get a hefty whiff of salt and brush of sea breeze by merely wandering its streets. Notable residents that have at one point owned property here include actors Robin Williams, Sharon Stone with then-husband Phil Bronstein — who was the executive editor for the San Francisco Examiner — Cheech Marin, and Eugene Levy; musicians Paul Kantner of Jefferson Airplane and Kirk Hammett of Metallica, prominent photographer Ansel Adams , and Bay Area tech bigwigs like Twitter and Square founder and CEO and billionaire Jack Dorsey, who reportedly paid a collective $30 million for two homes next door to each other, both nestled into a cliffside overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
Facebook takes down pages for right-wing group Patriot Prayer after one member died in a Portland altercation 2020/09/05 18:16:22 Business Insider
Summary List Placement In a move to counteract "violent social militias," Facebook said it took down multiple pages that had belonged to right-wing group Patriot Prayer and founder Joey Gibson. Patriot Prayer is a far-right group based in the Pacific Northwest region that frequently hosts pro-Trump rallies. The group received national attention this week after one of its members was killed during a protest last Saturday in Portland, Oregon. The member, Aaron "Jay" Danielson, was shot during a confrontation between Black Lives Matter activists and pro-Trump supporters. Patriot Prayer rallies frequently feature appearances by members of the Proud Boys , an antigovernment extremist organization that was designated a hate group by the nonprofit Southern Poverty Law Center. Gibson, a right-wing activist who leads the group, has been organizing pro-Trump rallies in multiple U.S. cities since 2016 . Supporters usually come armed to the rallies, which generally attract a lot of attention from counter-protesters.

Facebook's election week ad ban is 'a PR stunt' that won't stop disinformation but could hurt down-ballot candidates, digital campaign strategists say 2020/09/04 21:58:29 Business Insider
Summary List Placement Facebook's decision to ban new campaign advertising ahead of Election Day has left digital campaign strategists irritated and exasperated. The ad ban is a mere public relations gimmick that would do little to stop disinformation on the social network, operatives who specialize in targeting voters online told Insider. And they fear it could hurt down-ballot candidates for whom the final days towards November 3 are crucial when voters start paying closer attention to local races. Facebook announced the changes on Thursday saying the new rule would help combat disinformation closer to Election Day. But the social network leaves a huge window for the kind of disinformation the platform says it's trying to protect against to reach voters anyway. The ad ban would take effect weeks after millions of people have already voted by mail, and critics say it would be too little too late. "This is a PR stunt to distract from Facebook's miserable record for allowing really dangerous information to flourish on their platforms," said Eli Kaplan, a founder of the Democratic digital firm Rising Tide Interactive.
