Consolidation is coming to the cloud software market, analysts say, and Salesforce's reported interest in buying Slack is the latest sign  2020/11/27 20:42:35 Business Insider
Summary List Placement Salesforce has held talks to buy Slack , according to a Wall Street Journal report earlier this week, and if a deal goes through, it would be Salesforce's largest acquisition ever, given Slack's $17 billion market cap. The potential for a purchase of that size has industry watchers thinking about what could come next and analysts and experts expect more M&A in the cloud software space in the coming year. Right now only 35% of company workloads are run on the cloud, but that number is expected to grow to 55% by 2022, spurred in part by accelerated digital transformation due to remote work and the pandemic, Wedbush analyst Dan Ives wrote in a note to clients earlier this week. That means the "the overall cloud ecosystem is poised to see an influx of spending (as well as M&A) over the next few years," Ives wrote. Baird analysts agree, writing in a note to clients earlier this week that "with digital transformation in full swing, we wouldn't be surprised by additional strategic M&A." The report about Salesforce's interest in Slack comes shortly after Adobe acquired work management tool for marketers, Workfront ,for $1.5 billion, a deal that DA Davidson analyst Rishi Jaluria described at the time as a sign that companies were looking to add collaboration tools to their product stack. "We would expect larger enterprise players like Microsoft, Salesforce, ServiceNow, and Workday to make further acquisitions of collaboration software," he wrote at the time, adding that the collaboration space is "crowded" with a number of smaller companies.

This Is What Hedge Funds Bought And Sold In Q3: Complete 13F Summary Tyler Durden Mon, 11/16/2020 - 22:20 While we live in a time when the holdings of the top 20 Robinhood "investors" have far more information value for markets and other traders than a glimpse into what hedge funds are doing, not in the least because retail investors are outperforming both the S&P500 and hedge funds 10-to-1… ... unfortunately there is still no regulatory requirement for even superstar retail investors to disclose their holdings, which is why we have to be satisfied with the quarterly 13-F publication spectacle, which just concluded today, and which revealed that even as tech stocks suffered two correction shakeouts since early September, hedge funds mostly stuck with the "safety" of tech stocks during the third quarter heading into the election, even as some hedge funds trimmed Amazon.com as the dominant e-commerce platform thrived amid a pandemic-fueled surge in online shopping, while others sold Netflix Courtesy of Bloomberg, below is a snapshot of what some of the most prominent tech stock additions as disclosed by today's barrage of 13F filings: Coatue Management doubled its holdings of Tesla in the three months ended Sept. 30, making the electric-vehicle maker its second-biggest publicly disclosed holding.
The CEO of $135 million DevOps startup Transposit says the firm is now taking on giants like ServiceNow and Atlassian because IT management is 'broken'  2020/11/12 14:35:00 Business Insider
Summary List Placement Four-year-old DevOps startup Transposit has expanded its focus to dive into IT service management and take on companies like ServiceNow and Atlassian. Transposit launched in 2016 with a platform that made it easier for developers to manage integrations between multiple apps by weaving together application programming interfaces. Better known as APIs, they allow different software and services to exchange information and essentially "talk" to each other. Then, last year, it brought on a new CEO — Divanny Lamas, who is also a managing director at Sutter Hill Ventures — to lead a broadening of its mission: Transposit now offers a platform for engineering and IT teams to automate the work they do. It can help engineers collect data on their entire development process, analyze it for insights, and monitor how teams solve problems. Lamas sees this as an extension of the startup's original goal: "One of the things that gets me really excited is we're growing the company to be able to effectively take all those things that Transposit wanted to do and we're just simplifying and making it easier for people," she told Business Insider.

The product, called Jira Service Management, is the biggest move Atlassian has made to-date to address IT service management, says Atlassian chief revenue officer Cameron Deatsch. The platform brings all the company's tools together, allowing developers to track the progress of their software projects and report incidents on the same platform. The product is an evolution of Atlassian 's previous IT service management, Jira Service Desk, but with added capabilities to manage incident tickets and code changes, as well as machine learning-based technology that can automatically assign people to solve issues. "As your development teams are making changes all the time, when you go in to solve a problem, understanding how those changes were made and correlating that with the customer experience is an incredibly powerful tool," Deatsch told Business Insider.
