MG''s new all-electric hatchback will cost just $31,400 when it arrives in the UK 2022/08/08 07:55:37 Engadget
Last month, MG revealed the all-electric MG4 hatchback with range of up to 281 miles (on the WLTP system). Now, we know it will be one of the least expensive EVs available in the UK with a starting price of £25,995 ($31,400). It''s set to arrive in the UK in September this year. As a reminder, China''s SAIC Motors now owns the MG brand following the collapse of MG Rover in 2005. The vehicles are manufactured in China, but SAIC has a design studio in London. It also has joint venture partnerships with Volkswagen, GM and others to produce branded vehicles in China. The MG4 first arrived as the Mulan in China, built on SAIC''s MSP (Modular Scalable Platform) architecture that will be used on future MG EVs. It''ll come in three versions in the UK. The starting SE Standard Range model is priced at £25,995 with a 51kWh battery delivering 218 miles of WLTP range, compared to £36,195 ($43,800) for the ID.3 with a 58kWh battery and 265 miles of range. The £28,495 ($34,490) Long Range SE model uses a 64kWh battery to go 281 miles on a charge, which takes about 35 minutes to go from 10-80 percent thanks to the 135kW charging capacity.
Chinese EV Stocks NIO, LI, XPEV Heat Up on July Deliveries 2022/08/01 14:17:01 InvestorPlace
Chinese EV stocks are on the rise this morning. Nio (NYSE: NIO ), Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV ) and Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI ) all rose in pre-market trading as they reported their electric car deliveries for July. XPeng, built by entrepreneur He Xiaopeng and backed by Alibaba (NASDAQ: BABA ), had the best month, delivering 11,524 vehicles . Li delivered 10,422 and Nio 10,052 . While the numbers were all up from a year ago, they were notably down from June. Still, XPEV stock was up 2.54%, LI and Nio up almost 3%, in pre-market trading. While there remains the threat of de-listing for all Chinese stocks, including Alibaba , investors seem willing to take the risk with electric cars. New European Exports Nio began building a European presence last year through Norway, where about one-third of all new cars are now electric. It is expanding into four more markets this year, including Germany, and hopes to be in 25 countries by 2025. It calls its stores “Nio Houses” where drivers can swap out batteries in under an hour .

GM''s Barra stands by ambitious EV pledge 2022/07/18 11:08:49 AOL
NEW YORK (AP) — The economy is a bit wobbly, but General Motors CEO Mary Barra isn''t backing off of an audacious prediction: By the middle of this decade, her company will sell more electric vehicles in the U.S. than Tesla, the global sales leader. To fulfill that pledge in as little as 2 1/2 years, she faces some long odds against immense economic forces that are working against auto sales. Inflation has spiked, interest rates are rising, material costs have soared and a global shortage of computer chips is still braking assembly lines at GM and other companies. But in an interview with The Associated Press, Barra said she''s confident GM can unseat Tesla with higher-priced specialty vehicles, and it will beat Elon Musk to high-range EVs at prices that people can afford. Last year GM sold just 25,000 electric vehicles in the U.S., less than one-tenth of the estimated 352,000 sold by Tesla. Although EV sales are rising dramatically, they’re still only about 5% of the U.S. new vehicle market, with many Americans still reluctant to change. “To really get to 30, 40, 50% EVs being sold, you have to appeal to people that are in that $30,000 to $35,000 price range,” Barra said.
