   7 Semiconductor Stock Predictions for 2023  2022/10/19 20:42:16 InvestorPlace
Semiconductors are used in virtually all of the most important emerging technologies. Data centers, gaming, and electric cars all require a substantial number of chips. In fact, electronic components make up nearly 40% of internal combustion vehicles. Additionally, semiconductor chips play a vital role in the electronic equipment such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones that we use every day. Thus, it’s not surprising to note that demand for chips surged in 2020 and 2021. That said, supply chain difficulties made it difficult to get the chips where they needed to be. This caused many chip stocks to move down from record highs in 2022. Now, with many manufacturers overestimating their need for chips, these semiconductor stocks have been hit hard. While some argue this has allowed chipmakers to focus on the next generation of chips that will be in high demand, this is still a sector with some risk. That said, as more attention is paid to bringing semiconductor manufacturing in the United States, 2023 may be the start of another semiconductor super cycle.

ISMC to invest $3 billion in Karnataka to set up India’s first chip-making plant  2022/05/02 00:30:00 The Financial Express
International semiconductor consortium ISMC, a joint venture between Abu Dhabi-based Next Orbit Ventures and Israel’s Tower Semiconductor, will invest $3 billion in Karnataka to set up India’s first chip-making plant, the state government said on Sunday. The announcement indicates that the incentive structure being put in place by the government to make India a semiconductor hub is beginning to fructify. Intel had recently announced plans to acquire Tower Semiconductor. ISMC’s proposed 65-nanometer analog semiconductor fabrication unit is expected to employ 1,500 people directly over seven years, the state government said, adding that another 10,000 jobs will be created in the ancillary ecosystem. The chip makers’ consortium has requested for 150 acres of land in Mysuru’s Kochanahalli Industrial area for the unit. Additional chief secretary for IT and bio-technology EV Ramana Reddy and ISMC director Ajay Jalan signed a memorandum of understanding in the presence of chief minister Basavaraj Bommai.

Vedanta seeks free land, cheap water, power in race to be India''s first chipmaker  2022/04/28 06:36:54 Economic Times India
In a race to become India''s first chip maker, Vedanta Ltd is seeking 1,000 acres (405 hectares) of free land from states and other incentives for its $20 billion foray into semiconductor and display manufacturing, sources told Reuters. The oil-to-metals conglomerate in February said it will diversify into chip manufacturing and announced plans to form a joint venture with Taiwan''s Foxconn to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi''s plans to make India a semiconductor manufacturing hub. Though Vedanta is seeking federal incentives under a Modi programme offering fiscal support, it is separately asking states for 1,000 acre of land free of cost on a lease for 99 years, according to two sources with direct knowledge of . It needs 700 acres for its own facility, and the remainder for ancillaries. Vedanta has told state governments that its operations would help them generate $2.2 billion in tax revenues over 20 years and create up to 100,000 direct and indirect jobs, said the first source. The company is in advanced stages of reviewing proposals from at least three Indian states, Telangana and Karnataka in the south, and Maharashtra in west, added the source.
