On IPO Day, Olo's CEO wants Wall Street to know his company is not just another online ordering company — its Shopify for restaurants  2021/03/17 20:24:44 Business Insider
Summary List Placement Noah Glass is a proud father today. The chief executive and tech entrepreneur rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Wednesday with his 4-year-old son standing nearby and his other baby, Olo, making a milestone step. Glass founded the digital ordering platform for restaurants more than 15 years ago. It's now a powerhouse tech disruptor in the restaurant industry, streamlining a tangled web of digital ordering technologies used by restaurants and multi-unit franchises. While food insiders know of Olo, Glass is excited to let Wall Street know that Olo can be a key player in the ever-important e-commerce world. "We wanted to elevate our visibility. The IPO, for us, is really about being more broadly known by the restaurant industry that we serve and the broader investor base outside of the restaurant industry," Glass told Insider shortly after ringing the iconic bell on Wall Street – a few blocks from the offices where he first launched Olo in 2005.

Why Wingstop's CEO considers big pizza players like Domino's his competition, not chicken chains  2021/03/09 16:30:44 Business Insider
Summary List Placement In less than a year, a string of casual dining chains including Applebee's and Chili's have introduced virtual chicken wing brands as they scramble to find new revenue channels during the pandemic. The chicken wing concepts are taking on category leader Wingstop. But CEO Charlie Morrison is not losing sleep over these delivery-only brands. He's after bigger fish. Wingstop just logged more than $1 billion in digital sales in 2020 – a record for the 1,500-unit Dallas-based chain founded in 1994. Through a strategic partnership with DoorDash, Morrison said the fast-casual chain has figured out how to make delivery, which represents 25% of sales, a winning proposition. The company's well-oiled online platform has allowed Wingstop to compete with top chains with strong delivery and digital sales especially "big pizza" chains like Domino's . "We're neck and neck with the pizza players," said Morrison, who previously ran Rave Restaurant Group, the owner of Pizza Inn. Profit-geared delivery McDonald's, Burger King, and Chipotle Mexican Grill began working with delivery companies such as DoorDash , Grubhub, and Uber Eats a few years ago.
