A digital ad firm just snapped up a competitor to make TV advertising more digital 2021/04/20 11:00:00 Business Insider
Summary List Placement The TV ad industry is racing to become more digital, leading to consolidation by advertising firms that help marketers make, buy and measure TV ads. In the latest example, 700-person Extreme Reach, a 13-year-old adtech company, has acquired rival Adstream for an undisclosed price. Adstream's 400 employees will join Extreme Reach. Extreme Reach sells advertisers technology that helps them organize the workflow of video and TV ads, including planning ad creative, casting, paying talent, and estimating the cost of creating a commercial. It also helps them them use data to pick which messaging and creative will work best on TV versus online video. Extreme Reach declined to name clients. Adstream, similiarly, sells software that marketers use to manage their video ads. Its clients include Publicis Groupe, AT&T, Dentsu, and Omnicom. Extreme Reach also runs an ad server that can place video ads on websites and apps, which Adstream doesn't have, CEO Daniel Mark said. "It's about giving clients a competitive advantage," Mark said of the rationale for the deal.

The league which has been among the most COVID-safe organizations in the US, told staff that they should return from remote locales so offices can begin re-opening. "While many of us have adjusted to working from home, we believe there are significant advantages to being back in the office and collaborating in-person with each another," read the memo sent to staff on Tuesday. "Your health and safety remain paramount and we will continue to monitor pandemic developments, work closely with our expert advisors, follow local and state requirements, and adjust the following plans as necessary." In a return to work plans that's more detailed than many, the league said it wants staff in New York and New Jersey back on September 7 at least three days a week, or two days a week if government guidelines don't allow for 100 percent occupancy by September 7, according to the email.
Ad agency Phenomenon, which worked with Pepsi and DC Entertainment, parts with its CEO and founder after 15 years 2021/04/01 13:30:51 Business Insider
Summary List Placement Los Angeles ad agency Phenomenon has parted ways with its founder and CEO Krishnan Menon after 15 years. An agency spokesman confirmed that Menon is no longer with the company and said Phenomenon is searching for his successor. Menon launched Phenomenon in 2006 after holding top roles at agencies like Omnicom's DDB and Publicis' Digitas. Phenomenon is owned by private-equity firms Sleeping Bear Capital and Berggruen Holdings. Menon often spoke of flying below the industry radar, but Phenomenon has had big-name clients such as PepsiCo, DC Entertainment, Neustar, Intuit, and Crate and Barrel. It positioned itself as a combination ad agency and consulting firm and expanded into TV and film. The agency acquired Detroit-based digital agency Marketing Supply Co. in January. Beyond advertising, Menon co-created the reality TV show "America's Prom Queen," which aired on ABC Family for one season in 2008. Menon did not respond to emails and calls seeking comment. Goldman Sachs says to buy these 49 stocks that are set to increase their dividend payouts to shareholders the most in 2021 2021/03/24 16:16:26 Business Insider
Summary List Placement It comes as no surprise that companies all over the world resorted to suspending or cutting dividend payments as a response to the business slowdown caused by the coronavirus. Following the global outbreak that led to lockdowns and a downturn in economic activity, the S&P 500 experienced its third-largest daily percentage loss ever, dropping about 12% on March 16, 2020. Also, the index's dividend yield has on average been falling since April 2020, and it currently sits at around 1.3%, which is at least 1.7 percentage points below its historical average , YCharts data shows. A decreasing dividend yield might be the result of rising stock prices or companies trimming their dividends, or both. Dividends are taken from profits that usually decline during a recession. However, US stock investors didn't take that hard of a hit in 2020; they instead enjoyed a record $503.1 billion in dividends last year. Even dividend payments to S&P 500 shareholders hit a new record of $58.28 per share in 2020, 0.7% higher than the last record peak in 2019, according to S&P Global data.

How advertising giants like WPP and IPG are building new kinds of businesses to stay relevant as people shop more online 2020/12/14 14:04:29 Business Insider
Summary List Placement Brands and retailers are shoveling money into e-commerce advertising as online shopping skyrockets during the pandemic — and ad holding companies and agencies are swooping in to cash in on the demand. Dentsu, Horizon Media, and IPG have launched new commerce practices in the past few months while Omnicom, Publicis, and WPP revamp or put more muscle behind theirs. "This is definitely a trend for 2020 and 2021: e-commerce, and, more broadly, retail media and marketplace commerce are top client priorities," said Forrester analyst Jay Pattisall. "Clients and agencies are claiming a decade of e-commerce innovation in the last six to eight months due to COVID, so it's no surprise that many agencies and consultancies are pushing further into that capability." Brands and retailers need help as shopper marketing evolves Retailers and consumer goods companies have already been evolving to compete with direct-to-consumer startups and online retailers that sell their own products. "It's e-commerce that's [changed] how we're thinking about marketing now," Brad Hiranaga, General Mills' chief brand officer told Business Insider . "It's no longer, 'I'm going to get tortillas over here, and some beef and cheese over there.' Brands that are smart are providing that whole solution for taco night with one click of a button.'" Online shopping has accelerated during the pandemic, leading brands like Petco, Hershey and General Mills to prioritize online sales and shift spending from traditional advertising to digital media channels, especially retail media .
