For more than half a century, Count Durkheim has approached collecting less as an acquisition strategy and more as a way of understanding the world. Beginning with a chance encounter that introduced him to the work of Georg Baselitz, his collection grew into a deeply personal exploration of postwar German art, shaped by curiosity rather than trends. Along the way came rare works by Gerhard Richter, transformative encounters with Sigmar Polke, and a conviction that art reveals far more than art history alone. What starts as a conversation about collecting becomes something richer: a reflection on ideas, politics, memory and the artists who reimagined Germany after the war.
