When a small platform team owns a wide, interconnected system, the hardest problem is not outages. It is the quiet stress of uncertainty. Who owns this service? Is it safe to change? What will break if I deploy? At MECCA, the Platform Enablement team supports 12 domains across 15 systems, many inherited, business critical, and tightly coupled to vendor software. Through close collaboration between this team and MECCA’s Cloud & Platform team, observability best practices have been embedded across the entire stack and have turned uncertainty into confidence. In this talk, we share how Datadog helped turn that uncertainty into confidence through a self-documenting software catalog, proactive monitoring, and end-to-end visibility. You will see how a newly formed team was able to contribute safely to large codebases, spot issues earlier, and make changes with fewer high-impact incidents. Attendees will leave with practical ways to use observability to reduce cognitive load, clarify ownership, and help teams move faster without fear as their platforms grow.
