Demo summary • A heat lamp is used to expose plastic boards to radiant heat from a distance of 5 cm. • The demo compares an unprotected plastic board with boards covered using 3M™ Vinyl Tape 471, 3M™ Glass Cloth Tape 363, and 3M™ Aluminum Foil Tape 425. • Each board is exposed to heat for 1 minute before the measured temperature and visible surface condition are compared. Product highlights • Aluminum backing provides excellent reflection of both heat and light. • High thermal conductivity helps improve heating or cooling efficiency. • High heat reflectivity and flame resistance help protect temperature-sensitive materials against heat damage, flame damage, and hot spots. • Seals and protects against moisture, solvents, and dust. • Resists outdoor weathering and UV degradation for long-term performance. • Operating temperature range: -65°F to 300°F, or -54°C to 149°C. Observed results • In this demo, the unprotected plastic board reaches 105°C after 1 minute and deforms from radiant heat exposure. • With 3M™ Vinyl Tape 471 applied, the measured temperature is 78°C. • With 3M™ Glass Cloth Tape 363 applied, the measured temperature is 82.5°C. • With 3M™ Aluminum Foil Tape 425 applied, the measured temperature is much lower at 31.2°C, and the board is protected from visible thermal damage in the demonstrated setup.
