In Black communities, family and passing down wisdom go hand in hand, with ~70% of Black Americans saying they value storytelling. But when it comes to cancer history and risk, those stories often go untold. Changing the odds against cancer in Black communities starts with one simple step: talking about it. In a new series called “Rewrite the Recipe,” actor, culinary creator and cancer community advocate Tia Mowry invites Ebonie, Chas, and Tasha to join her in the kitchen to share cherished family recipes and talk about how cancer has impacted their lives. In this first episode, bread is broken, stories are shared, and family heritage is celebrated – even the tough parts about navigating cancer. This series was developed by Pfizer and the American Cancer Society as part of “Change the Odds: Uniting to Improve Cancer OutcomesTM,” an initiative focused on addressing disparities in cancer care.
