As natural hazards like flash floods and extreme heat increasingly impact New York City, proactive disaster preparedness is more critical than ever. Through the Verizon Community Disaster Resilience support of United Way’s United We Prepare initiative, vital safety education and emergency resources are being distributed directly to residents across all five boroughs. By tailoring hands-on workshops and emergency kits to meet neighborhood-specific risks — delivering flood gear to waterfront communities like Red Hook and Far Rockaway, and cooling supplies to areas like the Bronx — this partnership is helping New Yorkers build long-term readiness to face natural hazards with greater confidence.
