During our video newsletter segment this month, we are extremely happy to have CEO and Executive Director Hope Atuel, of the Asian Real Estate Association of America, or AREAA, here with us today. She will share helpful information and the benefits of collaborating with a prominent, nationwide real estate trade group. Hope, thanks so much for being here today with us. Hope: Thank you, Martin. I’m glad to be here and share information about AREAA. Martin: So, this is our video newsletter for our community partner network across the country. Could you tell us a little about AREAA and your network of real estate professionals? Hope: Sure, AREAA or the Asian Real Estate Association of America, was founded in 2003 with a mission of closing the homeownership gap for Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. I didn’t come up with that one. I know it’s a mouthful but closing the gap for AAN-HPI. Since its inception in 2003, we now have 19,000 members across the county and Canada, with 44 chapters as well. Martin: Could you let us know, Hope, what are the benefits of working with a real estate agent directly versus a consumer doing it all on their own? Hope: The biggest benefit of working with a real estate agent is to assist a consumer or a homebuyer in the biggest financial transaction that one will ever do in their lifetime. And so, it’s a complicated process from start to finish, from reading all the disclosures it’s very, very challenging. So a real estate agent can help navigate through that complicated and challenging process. Martin: Those are really great points, Hope. Now, what would you say a HUD certified Housing Counselor watching this video today, how could they engage with their local AREAA chapter, and how could it be mutually beneficial? Hope: Sure, a HUD approved counselor can work with any of our 44 chapters through events that we host. And I think with the 44 chapters that we have, we have an event practically every day. And so through these events, HUD counselors can work with real estate agents who can navigate with consumers and provide critical resources such as financial literacy, research, information, and even advocacy efforts for the AANHPI community. Martin: Now, what would you say is the next step for someone looking to get engaged with the AREAA network?
